Rebuild Services

Wisely your company purchased an expensive, high quality, precision machining center from Boston Digital Corporation, once known in the industry as the "Cadillac of Machine Tools". Built on aged grey cast 50 iron with integral flame hardened ground ways, this machine design offered superior rigidity and dampening qualities with stable and precision geometry characteristics, engineered to last for a very long time. Many BostoMatic Milling Machines have been in service and producing for over 25 years, surely a wise investment for any company.

Though years have taken its toll on control electronics, servo and spindle drive systems, the core BostoMatic machine provides an excellent base foundation for creating a new high quality precision machine that is capable of lasting another 25 years. With all the advantages of current state of the art technology rebuilt equipment is comparable with new machinery.

As the premier re-manufacturer and retrofitter of BostoMatic equipment in the world, G&W is experienced at taking old and tired BostoMatic machinery and recycling them into useful and productive pieces of equipment. After rebuilding the base machine, we then retrofit the machine with all new servo motors, encoders, scales, electrical and electronics components, hydraulic and pneumatic systems and couple it all with a new G&W / MDSI - OpenCNC control package.

The Remanufacturing Process

While this is not a complete list of items either replaced and/or repaired during the machine remanufacture process it certainly represents a typical list of items.

  • Complete disassembly of the machine and all auxiliary support components and assemblies.
  • All individual components are cleaned and inspected for wear, tear and damage.
  • Machine Table, Base and Column inspected and as required sent out for grinding.
  • Machine Saddle and Slide inspected for wear and all bearing surface hand scraped or ground for straightness, flatness and square.
  • Machine gibs are re-turcited and ground fit.
  • All lead screws sent out for reconditioning.
  • All support bearings and seals replaced.
  • All internal lubrication distribution blocks, lines and port flushed, inspected and repaired or replaced as required.
  • Counter weight cables or chains replaced.
  • On 5-Axis machines the counter balance spring and cables replaced.
  • Spindle and drawbar assemblies rebuilt.
  • Spindle motors rebuilt or replaced.
  • Tool changers rebuilt and upgraded.
  • New Servo Drives and Servo Motors
  • New High Resolution position encoders or optional linear scales retrofitted.
  • New Spindle Drive system.
  • New Spindle Coolant system when required.
  • New Machine Lubrication System.
  • New Hydraulic System.
  • New Pneumatic System.
  • New Flood Coolant Pump.
  • All new electrical assembly interface cables and harnesses, limit switches, solenoids, proximity switches.
  • A New CNC Control System is retrofitted.
